How we sit is important to enable us to do our best work. We all remember from school about correct posture - feet flat, bottom back, etc as well as the importance of correct chair and table heights. But what about children who are sensory seekers or have low muscle tone? This can be hard work!

It's the proprioceptive system that is located in our muscles and joints that provides us with a sense of body awareness and detects/controls force and pressure. The proprioceptive system also has an important regulatory role in sensory processing as proprioceptive input can assist in controlling responses to sensory stimuli.

So it's easy to see that proprioceptive input can be very calming for those who are easily overwhelmed by sensory stimulation and also very important for those who need increased sensory stimulation to facilitate attention and learning.

Cue our flexible learning tables which really support the child's body in a way that frees the mind to focus.. children can sit on cushions, wobble cushions, sit with legs to the side, legs crossed, knees/feet tucked under.... they can even sit on the bench if they wish!
Floor sitting though can be great for building core strength as it engages muscles in the core and back that aren't used whislt sitting in a chair.

Traditionally intended for use in Waldorf/Steiner classrooms, these are absolutely perfect for home use. The wooden low tables are extremely multipurpose; they serve as seats, tables, workspaces and play surfaces, you may even stand on end for a vertical workspace or flip for balance beam. It could also be your small world playspace or seasonal/nature table, or a quiet safe individual space for children to retreat to in times of overwhelm.

Designed and made in Brisbane, the table top is made from high quality solid mixed hardwood timber vic ash/tassie oak and the beam is structural grade pine. All edges are rounded, providing not only aesthetics but safety for little hands and bodies.

The low table is finished with Gillys liquid beeswax.

Size: 1.2m long, 40cm wide. weight approx 15kg. This will fit 2 children comfortably. The standard height of 35cm is suitable for child approx 119-142 tall. Balance beam is tested and rated at 70kg
