My First Blocks

Building with blocks is one of the most valuable learning experiences available for
young children. Our my first block set is designed to provide children the perfect introduction to block play but also support them as they grow and their play progresses.

There is a natural progression of block play and our set has been carefully curated to include a range of sizes and weights. My First Blocks is aimed specifically on the first 2 stages of block play, but of course can be used in the later stages.

Stage 1: Exploring... children love to carry, move, touch, hold, drop, knock over and feel blocks, generally exploring their properties. They also usually like a variety of vessels in which to pack, repack, and haul blocks.

Stage 2: Building Rows and Towers... pretty self explanatory, children line up blocks horizontally and stack blocks vertically.

Stage 3: Building Bridges and Passageways..children form a space between two blocks, and then span the space with a third block. Eventually, children in this stage build stacks and rows, adding bridges and creating passageways.

Stage 4: Building Enclosures... Children build a border of blocks to create an enclosed space. they may then construct stacked enclosures. They include passageways. They often beginning to add storylines, incorporating figurines. Quite often you see simple animal enclosures.

Stage 5: Adding Symmetry and detail... Children’s structures include deliberate efforts to achieve symmetry and balance, and prominent, often decorative patterning.

Stage 6: Planning and Building Elaborate Structures... Children have an idea, they spend much time sorting, matching, and arranging according to their plan. They incorporate imaginative play around their block structures

This block set is handmade from solid pine and sealed with natural beeswax/citrus oil.
